Morning Routine as a Stay at Home Mom

I don’t know about you, but I hate mornings. Probably because I don’t give myself time to really wake up, I just hop out of bed and go. I know, I know, I need to at least stretch first.

Make Your Bed

The first thing I do when I wake up and get out of bed is to make the bed. I feel like if your bed is made, your room just looks cleaner. It also makes me not want to lie in it and mess it up.

Tidy Up

Secondly is tidying up, I go around the room and pick up trash or any dishes from the night before (if I didn’t do it the night before). Then I go into the girls’ room and do the same thing, pick up toys, trash, etc. 

Brush Teeth

Next is family brush teeth time, that’s self-explanatory — we brush our teeth. Then we all take our vitamins, the girls take a multivitamin, I’m currently taking vitamin d and b12 alongside my birth control. 

Time to Eat…Hopefully

After all of that is done, it’s time for breakfast. Sometimes I ask what the girls want and sometimes I just make them something. Half the time they ask for stuff they think they want and they don’t even eat it. *rolls eyes* Moms know what I’m talking about, but I digress.

Cross Your Fingers

Lastly, I make me and sometimes my husband some food — he’s very picky. Or he’ll go out and get all of us some breakfast. Those are my favorite mornings lol. Anyways, I like to eat last because since the kids are completely taken care of I should be able to eat in peace and with no interruptions. 

Daily Activity/”Homeschool”

Once everyone is fed and all is calm it’s time to get into our daily activities. Whether it be a doctor’s appointment, family function, or our weekly outing. If we don’t have anywhere to be we’ll get started on our version of “homeschool”. (I use that term loosely and in quotations because we don’t have a strict curriculum.) That involves reading, doing some worksheets, or playing educational games on their fire tablet.

I don’t have the girls on a strict “homeschooling” schedule because we’ve tried that before and let me tell you no one benefited from it. I’ll tell ya’ll about that in another post.

You’re probably wondering why caffeine wasn’t mentioned at all. I mean as a mom with two kids, you’d expect me to be drinking something caffeinated, right? Well, I gave up caffeine years ago because of my anxiety and it was the best thing ever — kind of. But that’s another post for another time lol

  1. I feel like we’re living the same lives! I do the exact same thing and when I tell my husband that I hate mornings, he doesn’t get it. lol I get the whole caffeine thing, too. I tried coffee in my early 20’s and it always made my anxiety worse so

    I never drank it until I gave it a “go” quite a few years later and was hooked. Whil there are some days that I just know I shouldn’t drink it, there are days where it’s my savior. We’ve been implementing vitamin C to our daily morning to help our immune system during this whole pandemic crisis.

    I am able to eat breakfast at the same time as by daughter so it’s basically my “me time” in the morning while we sit there and joke around. My husband isn’t a breakfast person, so he’ll get something on his way into work if he’s hungry.

    I’m not a stay-at-home mom, but since schools have been put to online learning I have been. It actually makes the mornings not seem so hectic.

  2. My morning routine has been the same since the past 6 years.i believe that it is very important for a stay at home mom to take care of herself to ensure an healthy operating home. I always start the day with drinking a warm glass of lemon water and yoga that makes be ready to take the day head on! Cheers to motherhood

    1. You’re absolutely right! I’ve heard about drinking a warm glass of lemon water in the morning is very beneficial, I’ll have to add that to my routine

  3. I’m not much of a morning person, but I have 5 kiddos and we homeschool, so we have to get our mornings rolling..just not as early as if we didn’t homeschool! Everyone has a list of things to do and they also help with the baby while I get breakfast cooking!

  4. My favorite mornings are also when my husband goes out to get us breakfast!
    I am a teacher, who is now teaching online due to the school closures. As a result, I have created a stay at home mom schedule since I now am one! (like Kate said above)

    After I get out of bed, I make breakfast for my daughter. Once she’s done eating, I put on cartoons for her (the mornings are the only time I let her watch TV). While she is watching her cartoons, I clean around the house. I usually eat my breakfast in the midst of all of this. This is also why I always forget to take my vitamins!

    BTW – I hate coffee so I don’t start my day with caffeine either!

  5. I never used to like mornings until I created a morning routine. Now I love it so much that I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
